Project 2006 STi Part 2: Engine Work and Installation Old Motor Out, New Motor In!
September 24, 2008
Finally after a few long months, the motor is finally back in. We were hoping that it would have gone alot quicker than it actually did but as we found out, things happen, delays come up, etc, etc. We had a friend of ours help us with the internal work, and the installation so alot it had to be planned around his schedule. If any of you have ever done a big build like this or even just a turbo swap, chances are you have run into 1 or 2 hurdles that you never expected. That's just the way it goes. So if you are planning on doing a build like this or if you are planning on going to a bigger turbo that requires changing out to a higher flowing fuel system, be aware that something might happen that you aren't expecting so it's a good idea to have an "over flow" fund set aside for those "un-expected occurances" that can happen during a build like this. That fund will alow you to buy parts that you may not have known you would need for the build or in case something breaks when you are taking it out or putting it back in.
Here are some pictures of the build as well as the parts that we put in the car. You can also, check out more pictures and comment on our build on the forums at "www.WRXModders.com" and "www.WRXTuners.com".
And the end result...
Our good friends over at Cobb Tuning are going to help us out with the tuning and will be done by them on thier in house mustang dyno as soon as the new engine and turbo are broken in. We have the base map that will be "limping" us around town with a rev limit of only 3800 rpm to prevent over boosting the new turbo. Once everthing is broken in, it's off to Cobb Tuning were we will throw that bad boy on the dyno to see what numbers the car will put down.
We should have pictures and video of that once it happens and we'll also see if we can get an "in car" video as well. If you have any questions about the build (or anything else ;-) ) feel free to contact us @ 801-413-0300 and ask for Jarrod (it's his car) or send us an email at cs@scoobytuner.net.
