There are a couple common location for gauges. They are in the center of the dash (in the place of the clock housing), the A-Pillar, column mounted, or some customer location in the dash.

Personal preference plays a lot in the pod selection...but I have always found A-Pillar pods (though easier to install) harder to read while driving...and they block the view when turning left!. The Subaru OEM gauge pod looks great but must be modified to fit 52 mm gauges. Furthermore, it doesn't come standard with a faceplate.

There are a couple of kits out there that include a faceplate and made to fit 52 mm gauges. Defi also makes a great center pod to fit 60 mm gauges.
