Big brakes are a necessity if you spend time at the track. Otherwise, brake fade and even brake failure are very likely.

Some factors to be considered when purchasing a system include the rotor size, number of pistons, and the weight of the rotors.

Brake system manufacturers include Brembo, Stop Tech, Wilwood, AP Racing, and others.

Brembo brakes are standard issue on Ferrari, Porsche, and other premier performance brands (i.e. STi WRX).

The new STi receives upgraded Brembo brakes - 12.8 (325.1mm) inch rotors in the front and 12.4 (315mm) inchers in the rear. These are not the Brembo's top of the line brakes for the WRX. They are relatively heavy and use a single piece rotor. The two killer sets Brembo offers were original equipment on the Lotus Turbo Esprit and the top of the line (bigger calipers and floating-two piece rotors) come straight from the Ferrari F40 & F50...two cars with legendary braking performance.

Wilwood are the brakes used by NASCAR. M2 uses custom AP Racing. Others include Stop Tech, Prodrive, Cobb Tuning, etc.
